Halmoni (a Korean grandma) at work. Korea doesn't have a prooper pension plan set up for its citizens. In the past, the care of the elderly was the responsibility of their adult children. More and more, however, the elderly are forced to work hard all day to support themselves. They usually collect recyclable material, like glass or cardboard, while scouring the streets of Seoul. This picture was taken close to the Hansung University subway station, early in the morning. The grandma is on her way to collect possibly cardboard. She'll have to cover a lot of mileage to fill her cart. With her visor, permed hair she's a typical Korean grandma. Good luck to you!
Capricorn's Corner
I decided to start this blog to keep a record of my amazing life in Korea and allow family and friends a peek into my adventures, misadventures, and musings; occasionallly, also, it is necessary to let off some steam about this or that - why not do it here?
